“Do Europeans feel safer when their elites uncover the hatchet? I believe the answer is obvious,” he said.

Lavrov reiterated that Moscow remains open to discussions on security cooperation across Eurasia, stressing that Russia is “prepared to solidify this position through future security guarantees.”

However, he criticised the EU for rejecting Moscow’s proposals for collective security frameworks, saying European leaders have instead chosen to pursue policies that isolate Russia.

“The leaders of the European Union are moving away from considering these future guarantees on a collective basis, proudly declaring that after the Ukrainian crisis, security guarantees should exist not with Russia’s participation, but against Russia,” Lavrov said. “This reflects a certain way of thinking.”

His remarks come amid heightened tensions between Russia and Western nations over the ongoing war in Ukraine and the broader debate on Europe’s post-war security architecture.
