"We faced evil head-on. We faced a sick society, a social project that wants to expand throughout the world , so when we are there, we are not there only for the Palestinians."

That was one of the testimonies shared by activists linked to the Global Sumud Flotilla during a pro-Palestine event held in Sao Paulo on Wednesday, where crew members recounted their experiences following their detention by Israeli authorities.

The event brought together activists and supporters, with some flotilla members appearing through video conference while others spoke directly to the audience. Footage from the gathering showed participants raising Palestinian flags and banners while chanting in solidarity with Gaza .

Among those who addressed the event was activist Thiago Avilla, who spoke online about his detention alongside Spanish crew member Saif Abu Keshek earlier in May.

"Saif and I were there for 10 days in the Shabak interrogation and torture camp. These are extremely serious and grave violations, and little did we know that in the next mission the violations would escalate even further," Avilla said.

Speakers at the event accused European governments of failing to prevent Israel from intercepting the flotilla in international waters. Some activists also criticised the Brazilian government, describing its response to the incident as a "historic failure."

Several crew members alleged they suffered "beatings" while in detention and accused Israeli authorities of carrying out "political sabotage" during the operation against the flotilla.

According to organisers, around 430 activists from different countries participated in the Global Sumud Flotilla mission, which aimed to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. Israeli authorities intercepted the flotilla before it reached Gaza, and those involved were later deported.
