In an interview, Azizi said the United States emerged from the 40-day war without meaningful gains despite incurring significant costs.

“Of course, it is natural for the US President to make such remarks because he has gained nothing,” Azizi said. “He did not achieve anything in the 40-day war, nor in these times. Now, because he has an empty track record and empty hands, and has incurred very heavy costs in this war that have brought no gains for the Americans, while also causing numerous economic problems for the world and the Americans, he is forced to make these threats.”

His comments came amid continued tensions between Tehran and Washington despite ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at securing a broader agreement following the conflict.

Azizi warned that any future military action against Iran would be met with a stronger response from Tehran.

“However, he should know that this is Iran. This is a united front with a firm ideology based on the principles and ideals of Islam ,” he said.

“Just as our nation and our armed forces stood united during the Ramadan war, should he take any uncalculated action, he will definitely receive a more regretful, more painful, and undoubtedly more decisive response.”

The remarks follow recent warnings from Trump, who has suggested that further military action against Iran remains an option if negotiations fail or if Tehran resumes activities Washington views as threatening regional security .

Speaking at an event with government officials and local leaders on Thursday, Netanyahu said the strategy was built on two priorities, economic development and security .

“There are two components here. One component is development and investment, and the second component is security, deterrence, and prevention,” he said. “We are very determined to carry this out.”

Netanyahu said the initiative was designed to ensure long-term stability and prosperity for northern communities while promoting coexistence among the region’s diverse populations.

“As we say to Jews, Druze, Circassians, and Muslims - we all live together in the same package, and I am committed to that,” he said.

The prime minister described the programme as a major milestone and expressed confidence that northern Israel would undergo a transformation similar to what he said had been achieved in the south.

The remarks come days after the Israeli government approved a 13 billion shekel ($4.5 billion) plan proposed by Netanyahu and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich to strengthen towns near the Lebanese border.

The package includes the construction of 1,800 new public bomb shelters, subsidies for safe rooms in homes located within nine kilometres of the border, and a five-year development programme aimed at attracting 100,000 new residents.

Combined with previously approved funding, the total investment in the initiative is expected to reach 20 billion shekels ($6.9 billion).

Netanyahu called the announcement “a day of celebration” and thanked local leaders and government officials involved in advancing the project.

Main Points

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) secured its second UEFA Champions League title after defeating Arsenal in the 2026 final, moving the French club into a select group of multiple European champions and updating the competition's all-time winners list.

According to UEFA records, Real Madrid remains the most successful club in Champions League history with 15 titles, far ahead of AC Milan's seven. Liverpool and Bayern Munich follow with six crowns each, while Barcelona has won five.

PSG's latest triumph lifts the club to two Champions League titles, placing it alongside historic European powers including Chelsea, Juventus, Porto, Benfica and Nottingham Forest. The victory marks another milestone in PSG's transformation from a dominant domestic force into a consistent contender on Europe's biggest stage.

The updated rankings highlight the enduring dominance of a handful of clubs. Real Madrid's record haul accounts for nearly one-quarter of all European Cup and Champions League titles awarded since the competition began in 1955. The Spanish giants have also won more finals than any other club.

England remains one of the competition's most successful nations, with clubs such as Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa and Manchester City combining for multiple titles. Italy's AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus have likewise played a major role in shaping the tournament's history.

PSG's latest success is particularly significant for French football. Before the Paris club's emergence, Marseille's 1993 triumph stood as France's only European Cup victory. With two titles now to its name, PSG has become the country's most successful club in the competition.

UEFA says the Champions League is still the most prestigious club tournament in world football, attracting hundreds of millions of viewers globally each season. The competition's rich history, legendary finals and elite clubs continue to make lifting the trophy one of the sport's greatest achievements.

For some residents of Beirut's southern suburbs, Monday's evacuation was not seen as a final departure, but another forced pause in daily life.

A video from Viory showed long convoys of cars and motorcycles leaving the area after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced new strikes on the southern suburbs. Small trucks carrying personal belongings were also seen transporting families away.

Displaced resident Jaafar Wazni said he expected to return despite the repeated danger.

"We are leaving today, but we will return tomorrow. We may have to leave again tomorrow, and then return the day after. I will continue like this until the last day of my life," said Wazni.

He also rejected the idea that displacement amounted to defeat.

"Netanyahu and Trump should not think that by forcing us to leave the southern suburbs they have won," he added. "I will remain devoted to this community and this cause until my final day and my last breath."

Earlier on Monday, Netanyahu and Israel i Defence Minister Israel Katz ordered the IDF to strike Hezbollah "terror targets" in the southern suburbs. Israel accused Hezbollah of violating the ceasefire and firing on northern Israel.

Hezbollah has reportedly expanded rocket and drone attacks on northern Israel over the past 24 hours, with strikes reaching as far as Haifa. Israel also said over the weekend that it had taken control of Beaufort Castle in southern Lebanon.

The latest movement of residents comes as a fragile ceasefire remains in place between Israel and Lebanon. US-mediated talks are still ongoing.

President Donald Trump announced a 10-day ceasefire between both sides on April 15, then extended it by three weeks on April 23 after direct talks between Lebanese and Israeli officials in Washington. The United States later announced another 45-day extension in mid May.

The Israeli military has also set up a "Yellow Line" in southern Lebanon to stop residents from returning to areas under its control. Israel has previously said it plans to establish a " security zone" inside Lebanon, stretching from the border to the Litani River.

'No quiet in Beirut!': Israel orders strikes

Israel's government has signalled a tougher response to Hezbollah attacks, ordering strikes on targets in Beirut's southern suburb of Dahiyeh after accusing the group of violating the ceasefire.

Defence Minister Israel Katz said he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu authorised the attacks following rocket fire towards northern Israeli communities.

"In response to the ceasefire violation by the Hezbollah terrorist organisation and the firing toward northern communities. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and I ordered the IDF to attack terrorist targets in the Dahieh neighbourhood in Beirut," Katz said in an address.

Katz warned that attacks on northern Israel would bring consequences beyond the border area.

"The fate of Dahiyeh in Beirut is the same as the fate of the northern communities in Israel. If there is no quiet in the north, there will be no quiet at all. In Beirut as well, we will not allow a reality where our civilian communities are harmed while quiet is maintained in Beirut," he added.

The latest strikes come as the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah has weakened in recent weeks. Israeli ground operations have moved further into Lebanon while Hezbollah has increased rocket and drone attacks into northern Israel.

Israeli forces recently took control of Beaufort Castle and the surrounding ridge in southern Lebanon, marking Israel's deepest advance into Lebanon in more than 20 years. Israel said the area had been used by Hezbollah to launch attacks, while Lebanon's government accused Israel of pursuing a "scorched-earth policy".

The Israeli military has also issued evacuation warnings in parts of southern Lebanon, including areas around the Zahrani River, as operations continue to expand.

According to reports, more than 1.2 million people have been displaced in Lebanon since Hezbollah began launching rockets and drones into Israel on March 2 in support of Iran . Lebanese authorities say more than 3,370 people have been killed, while Israel says 24 soldiers and four civilians have died during the same period.

The escalation comes as US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is expected to announce a new ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel following political negotiations in Washington.
