What happens when dessert meets dinosaurs?

In Suwon, South Korea, the answer is “Tyrannomisu,” a T-Rex skull-shaped tiramisu that has become a social media hit and brought crowds to the historic Haenggung-dong neighbourhood.

The dessert is served at Rexpresso Museum, a dinosaur-themed café designed like a palaeontology lab. Officially called the “T-REX TIRAMI,” the dessert costs 13,000 won, about US$9, and is made to look like a dark chocolate dinosaur skull placed on cocoa powder.

Customers do not eat it with regular cutlery. They use a small metal shovel spoon to break into the chocolate skull and dig into the espresso-soaked tiramisu inside.

“It’s a combination of a natural history museum and a reptile shop styled like a research lab. The idea came from our founder, a dinosaur enthusiast, and my background as a zookeeper at Everland (the country’s largest zoo). Together, we brought this vision to life,” said Cho In-ho, managing director of Rexpresso Museum.

The café’s interior adds to the appeal. It features a life-size T-Rex skeleton replica, reptiles and amphibians, giving visitors a setting that feels part café and part exhibition space .

Cho said the idea was shaped by the public’s long interest in dinosaurs.

“Many people have imagined, after watching films like Jurassic Park, what it would be like to see dinosaurs in real life. So, we created this space as a tribute to that idea, appealing to all ages. We built a life-size T-Rex skeleton and included reptiles and amphibians, allowing visitors to explore as if they’re on a small adventure,” he said.

The café has gained attention at a time when visually distinctive cafés in South Korea are using design, food presentation and social media appeal to attract visitors.

One visitor, Shin Yoo-seop, said online videos led him to the café.

“I saw this place on Instagram Reels and decided to visit. I’ve been interested in dinosaurs since I was young, and thought it would be a great place for a date, so I came with my girlfriend. The tiramisu didn’t stand out in photos, but in person, it looks much better—very chocolatey and detailed. It looks really delicious,” Shin said.

The café says the “Tyrannomisu” is made with decaffeinated ingredients, making it suitable for children .
