Speaking during a visit to the predominantly Druze town of Yarka in northern Israel on Thursday, Netanyahu described the exchange as brief but decisive.

“I picked up the phone and called al-Sharaa. It was a very short, very sharp conversation, and the massacre stopped,” he said. Netanyahu also pledged to continue protecting Syria’s Druze minority and supporting the return of displaced residents to their homes.

The Israeli strikes followed deadly sectarian clashes in Syria’s Suwayda province, where government forces were accused of attacking civilians. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights , more than 2,000 people were killed, including 789 Druze civilians.

Israel maintained that its military intervention was intended to protect the Druze community, which has close religious and family ties with Druze citizens in Israel.

Netanyahu’s claim marks the first publicly reported direct conversation between the two leaders, despite Israel and Syria having no formal diplomatic relations. Syrian authorities have not commented on the alleged call.

Universally, flags are used by countries as a symbol or emblem, with a unique design.

These don’t only represent the identity of a country but also serve as a representation of the country’s history and culture.

They come in different colours, each with its meaning.

Although some countries share similar colours in flags, the arrangements will usually vary or there will be a symbol that sets it apart.

Some of these flags have existed for centuries, during the formation of nations and the shaping of world history. Others are relatively new.

Denmark’s flag, called the Dannebrog holds the title of the world’s oldest, dating back to 1219. The flag symbolises Danish unity and monarchy. In 1625, the current design of a white Scandinavian cross on a red background was established, and the square shape was adopted in 1748.

The Netherlands flag is the second oldest after Denmark. Originally with the colours Orange, white and blue, the national flag colours were later changed to red, white and blue.
