Chile and Venezuela move to restore ties after more than a year of rupture
Chile and Venezuela have agreed to begin rebuilding diplomatic relations after more than a year of severed ties, starting with the gradual resumption of consular services.
The joint move marks a cautious step towards normalisation following the fallout from Venezuela’s disputed 2024 presidential election. Both governments said the initial focus will be on supporting citizens in each country, as part of a broader regional shift that has also seen Caracas reopen dialogue with other Latin American nations under interim leader Delcy Rodríguez.
