Netanyahu says Israel will maintain expanded security zone in Lebanon: Video
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday that Israel will maintain an expanded security zone inside Lebanon, rejecting calls for a full withdrawal ahead of a ceasefire.
In a video address, Netanyahu said Israeli forces would remain in the area, describing it as a security belt stretching across southern Lebanon.
“We remain in Lebanon,” he said. “This is a security belt that stretches from the sea, continues to Mount Dov and the approaches to Mount Hermon, all the way to the Syrian border.”
Netanyahu said the zone differs from Israel’s more limited presence before the military campaign known as Operation Lion's Roar.
The Israeli leader also said he had rejected two ceasefire conditions proposed by Hezbollah: a full Israeli withdrawal to the international border and a “quiet for quiet” arrangement.
