Peru vote too close to call as rival supporters rally

Supporters of Roberto Sánchez and Keiko Fujimori took to the streets in Lima as Peru’s presidential runoff remained too close to call, reflecting a deeply divided electorate.

Backers of left-wing candidate Sánchez gathered in Plaza San Martín, celebrating early quick-count results that gave him a narrow lead and calling for political change, justice and a break from corruption. Some expressed hope for the return of former president Pedro Castillo, while crowds chanted slogans rejecting Fujimori.

Meanwhile, Fujimori supporters voiced optimism about stability and security, praising her message of reconciliation and tougher action on crime. With quick counts showing a virtual tie and official results fluctuating as votes are processed, both camps remain confident as the final outcome hangs in the balance.
