Philippines President Marcos Jr warns of global energy ripple effects: Video

The Philippine president says supply disruptions could trigger lasting economic effects across Southeast Asia.

Ferdinand Marcos Jr. warned that disruptions to energy supply chains caused by tensions in the Middle East could have a prolonged “domino effect” on ASEAN economies, even if the situation stabilises. Speaking during a regional meeting in Cebu, he highlighted concerns over energy security, food stability, and the welfare of citizens abroad, noting that damage to infrastructure and trust in global systems may persist for years. Marcos also called for peace among the United States, Israel, and Iran, urging all sides to cease hostilities. The Philippines, like many in Southeast Asia, remains highly dependent on Middle Eastern energy supplies, with a significant portion passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
