Venezuela criticises Panama mayor over tracking device in aid shipment
Venezuela has criticised Panama City’s mayor after he said a tracking device was placed in humanitarian aid sent following recent earthquakes.
Venezuela’s Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello has criticised Panama City Mayor Mayer Mizrachi after the mayor said he had placed a GPS tracking device in humanitarian aid sent to Venezuela following the June 24 earthquakes. Cabello condemned the move, arguing it implied a lack of trust in Venezuelan authorities and their handling of relief supplies.
The controversy began after Mizrachi shared the decision on social media, saying the device was intended to track the delivery of aid to affected communities. Cabello responded by stressing that humanitarian assistance should not be politicised, particularly during a national emergency. Panama is among several countries that have provided aid to Venezuela after the earthquakes struck the country’s northern region.
