Global Sumud Flotilla depart Barcelona in bid to challenge Israel’s Gaza blockade: Video
Several boats set sail from Barcelona on Wednesday as part of an international flotilla heading toward the Gaza Strip, aiming to challenge Israel’s blockade and deliver humanitarian aid.
Brazilian humanitarian and climate activist Thiago Avila was seen aboard one of the vessels. Avila previously took part in an earlier flotilla effort that was intercepted by the Israeli Navy, during which he was detained in Israel.
Organisers said the mission is supported by a coalition of more than 70 vessels and around 1,000 participants from over 70 countries. According to a statement from the Global Sumud Flotilla, the initiative has entered its final departure phase from Barcelona.
