Colombia earthquake survivors in Cali vow to rebuild after devastation

Survivors in Cali are determined to rebuild their homes after a 7.4-magnitude earthquake left thousands of properties damaged across Colombia.

Footage filmed on Sunday, August 16, shows rubble from collapsed properties in Cali, with clothes and personal belongings still among the remains as authorities work to clear the affected areas. Survivors described the devastation and the rescue efforts that followed the collapse, while also highlighting the solidarity of local communities. Alberto said residents helped by passing rubble hand-to-hand and providing food and water, but appealed for support to rebuild the home he had spent his life working for.

Across Colombia, the earthquake has left 23,392 homes destroyed and 127,608 damaged, while 287 people have died and 4,147 have been injured, according to Sunday's update from the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management.
