Indonesia upgrades classrooms with interactive digital screens

Indonesia’s schools are undergoing a transformation. Around the country, 288,000 interactive screens have replaced whiteboards in classrooms.

These allow teachers to explain subjects with an almost unlimited range of visuals and hold the attention of students far better than traditional approaches.

The scheme had reached at least 21 million students by November 2025 and 55,000 teachers have been trained.

“We get bored just looking at the whiteboard. With the digital board we are inspired to be more motivated to study,” said one student.

The screens are designed to work online and offline and can be solar powered in areas not connected to the grid. This will allow them to benefit all the country’s children with a goal of better preparing them for the jobs of the future.

Alongside the technology, the curriculum is also focusing more on areas related to technology with subjects such as coding and AI introduced.

A teacher who is working with the new screens said: "The best thing is the enthusiasm of the children to try to work," pointing out young people used to smartphones wanted digital interactivity in their learning too.
