Israeli airstrike on Beirut suburbs kills two, injures 11 amid fragile Lebanon ceasefire
At least two people were killed and 11 others injured in an Israeli airstrike on the southern suburbs of Beirut on Sunday, June 7, according to Lebanese media reports.
The attack was the first such strike since the latest ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon came into effect.
Footage from the scene showed extensive damage inside apartments within a residential building. Military intelligence personnel were also seen at the site while heavy machinery cleared debris from the affected area.
Lebanese media reported that the strike targeted the Al-Mreijeh area in Beirut’s southern suburbs, resulting in two deaths and 11 injuries.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said the attack was ordered in response to rocket fire from Lebanon.
Netanyahu’s office stated that he had ordered an airstrike on “a Hezbollah headquarters in the southern suburbs in response to Hezbollah firing on Israeli territory.”
Earlier, the Israeli military announced that it had intercepted two rockets launched from Lebanon toward northern Israel. The incident marked the first rocket attack attributed to Hezbollah since the latest ceasefire agreement took effect last week.
According to figures released by Lebanon’s Ministry of Health, 3,613 people have been killed and 11,072 wounded by Israeli military fire since March 2.
