Japan's digital minister Kono plans to run in LDP race, NTV says

Japan's digital minister Taro Kono plans to announce his candidacy on Aug. 26 for the ruling Liberal Democratic Party leadership election next month to replace Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, NTV said on Monday.

Kishida will step down in September, ending a three-year term as leader of the world's fourth-largest economy.
