Mexico-based group warns of US hegemonic push in Latin America: Video

Activist groups in Mexico City have launched a food and medicine drive for Cuba, describing the initiative as both humanitarian support and a stand against renewed US pressure in the region.

Donations were collected in the Zócalo, as organisers cited worsening fuel shortages on the island following measures announced in January by Donald Trump, including tariffs targeting countries that export oil to Cuba.

Olivia Garza, Vice President of the Association of Cubans Residing in Mexico “José Martí”, said the campaign aims to promote regional unity. She argued that “defending Cuba is defending all of Latin America”, accusing Washington of seeking to impose a “Monroe Doctrine 2.0” to assert control over the region’s resources. Mexico’s president, Claudia Sheinbaum, has stated that her government will continue sending humanitarian aid to Havana and has criticised the US measures as unfair.
