The Mayor of Atlanta, Andre Dickens, has declared November 18 ‘Davido Day’ in recognition of Nigerian singer Davido’s profound impact on Atlanta’s entertainment industry.

Following the Nigerian artist's headline performance at the A.W.A.Y (Are We African Yet?) Festival at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, the Mayor and the Atlanta City Council declared November 18 “Davido Day” in honour of the singer Davido, formally known as David Adeleke.

The mayor’s message to the singer on his birthday, November 21, 2023, read, “On behalf of the City of Atlanta, thank you for your tireless efforts as a renowned singer, songwriter, producer, business leader, philanthropist, and community advocate. Throughout your remarkable career, you’ve amassed an incredible number of accolades and continue to use your platform to give back to communities in the United States and throughout Africa.”

“Be it resolved that we, the members of the Atlanta City Council, on behalf of the citizens of Atlanta, do hereby proclaim November 18, 2023, as Davido Day in the City of Atlanta.” The mayor added.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, and later raised in Lagos, Nigeria, Davido is the nephew of the governor of Osun State. His journey in the music industry began as a member of the KB Group International. Studying business administration at Oakwood University, Alabama, he eventually pursued his passion for music, marking the start of a stellar career that has seen him amass numerous accolades.

The Fulton Council Board of Commissioners also honoured Davido, proclaiming November 21 as "Davido Appreciation Day" in Fulton County, Georgia.

“Be it resolved, That the Fulton County Board of Commissioners recognizes David for his contributions to the music and entertainment industry, and does hereby proclaim Tuesday, November 21, 2023 ‘Davido Appreciation Day’ in Fulton County, Georgia,” the Board said in a statement.
