Petro calls Netanyahu ‘a criminal with power,’ says such leaders become genocidal: Video
Colombian President Gustavo Petro on Friday, May 29, compared the humanitarian crisis in Gaza to the violence caused by drug trafficking and paramilitary groups in Colombia, arguing that both situations demonstrate the dangers of criminality backed by political power.
Speaking during a government achievements presentation in the Caribbean city of Barranquilla, Petro said that criminal actors become far more dangerous when they gain influence and authority.
"If a criminal has power, that criminal becomes empowered and no longer kills one or two or ten people, but can kill an entire town. It produces genocide," Petro said. "Or if not, look at what Mr Netanyahu does in the world with the babies of Gaza, in Palestine."
The Colombian leader concluded that "a criminal with power becomes genocidal."
Petro's remarks came as part of a tour of Colombia's Caribbean region ahead of local elections scheduled for Sunday.
