Travellers with a long wait between flights may have their best chance of finding plenty to eat at Singapore Changi Airport, which ranks first for food choice in an Airport Parking & Hotels study of major global airports.

Changi had 247 restaurants and cafés, the most among the airports studied. Chicago O’Hare International Airport ranked second with 210, while Tokyo Haneda Airport came third with 173.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport followed with 165 dining options, while New York's LaGuardia Airport rounded out the top five with 142.

The United States had the strongest representation in the top 10. In addition to Chicago, Atlanta and LaGuardia, New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport ranked eighth with 129 restaurants and cafés.

Asian airports were also prominent. Indonesia's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport placed sixth with 133 dining options, followed by Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport with 131. Shanghai Pudong International Airport ranked ninth with 126, while Istanbul Airport completed the top 10 with 118.

Airport Parking & Hotels examined the 50 busiest airports worldwide as part of a wider study of the best places for a layover. Its overall index considered 12 factors, including restaurants and cafés, food prices, restaurant ratings, lounges, Wi-Fi, showers and sleeping facilities.

Changi also ranked first in that broader assessment, scoring 7.3 out of 10. The airport had 16 lounges, Wi-Fi and shower facilities, as well as a sleepability rating of 4.9 out of five.
