Spain has become the first country in football history to simultaneously hold the FIFA Men's and FIFA Women's World Cup titles, following the men's victory at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The achievement adds another milestone to Spanish football after the women's national team won the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, defeating England 1-0 in the final through Olga Carmona's first-half goal.

Three years later, Spain's men's team completed the double by lifting the 2026 FIFA World Cup, making the country the only reigning champion in both senior FIFA tournaments simultaneously.

The feat has never previously been achieved by traditional football powers such as Brazil, Germany, Italy, Argentina or France. While several nations have won both the men's and women's World Cups at different times, none has held both titles simultaneously.

Spain's rise has been built on sustained success across multiple competitions. Since 2023, the women's side has also won the inaugural UEFA Women's Nations League in 2024, while the men's team captured UEFA Euro 2024 before adding the World Cup two years later.

Spain's men's and women's national teams draw heavily from clubs in La Liga and Liga F, while academies such as FC Barcelona's La Masia have produced international stars including Lamine Yamal, Aitana Bonmatí and Alexia Putellas.

The country is also one of only a handful of countries to have won both senior FIFA World Cups. The men's team secured its first title at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa after defeating the Netherlands, while the women's breakthrough came in 2023.

FIFA's two flagship tournaments remain the pinnacle of international football. The men's World Cup, first held in 1930, has been won by only eight nations. The Women's World Cup, launched in 1991, has produced five champions before Spain joined the list in 2023.
