'This is a war': Bolivian president pushes troop deployment bill: Video
Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz announced on Wednesday, June 3, that his government has submitted a bill to parliament aimed at regulating the domestic deployment of troops, as the country grapples with weeks of social unrest and widespread protests.
Speaking in La Paz, Paz described the ongoing crisis as an assault on the nation, alleging that Bolivia is facing both internal and external threats.
"This is a war, an invasion against Bolivia," Paz said. "We have detected several pages that attack and spread lies about the national order, but there is an excessive international attack."
The president also condemned what he described as the "damage and violence" caused by protest groups, arguing that the proposed legislation would strengthen state institutions, particularly the Armed Forces, during a state of emergency.
