Trump says US 'knocked the hell out of Iran,' claims Tehran is dying to settle
US President Donald Trump claimed the United States had dealt a major blow to Iran, saying Tehran was now eager to reach a settlement following recent US military action.
Speaking at a public event, Trump said the United States had "knocked the hell out of Iran" and suggested Iranian leaders were now seeking negotiations.
"We beat Venezuela in one day, and we knocked the hell out of Iran. They're dying to settle. They want to settle so badly. We gave them a week off for a funeral because we're nice," Trump said.
Trump made the remarks while highlighting what he described as America's military strength and global leadership. He also praised the country's achievements over the past 250 years, citing advances in science, technology, culture and space exploration.
"For 250 years, the entire world has looked to our country and been inspired by the leaps of progress, feats of strength, and acts of selflessness, faith, and hope that could only have happened right here," he said.
The president also pointed to US accomplishments ranging from mapping the human genome and landing astronauts on the moon to its influence in music, sports and innovation. He noted that the United States has won the most Olympic medals and Nobel Prizes, before joking that he had yet to receive the prestigious award himself.
