Iranian officials have criticised U.S. President Donald Trump’s statements on ongoing negotiations, dismissing his claims that a peace deal is close and that Tehran has agreed to hand over enriched uranium.

Speaking at a diplomatic forum in Antalya, Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh said,“Mr. Trump tweets and talks a lot. It's sometimes confusing, contradictory,” rejecting what he described as inconsistent messaging from Washington.

Trump had earlier said a deal was “very close” and suggested Iran was ready to transfer its enriched uranium stockpile. Tehran has firmly denied agreeing to such terms, AFP reports.

Diplomatic efforts are continuing behind the scenes, with Pakistan playing a mediating role. Officials from Islamabad have engaged with Iran as well as regional powers including Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey. Egypt has also joined mediation efforts, saying it is “working tirelessly” toward a final agreement.

However, recent direct talks between Iran and the United States in Islamabad, the first at that level since 1979, ended without a breakthrough, and no date has been set for further negotiations.

Despite the stalled talks, Iran announced a partial reopening of its airspace and key airports, offering a limited sign of normalisation after weeks of conflict.
