Venezuela opens criminal probe against opposition leaders

Venezuela's attorney general Tarek Saab said on Monday his office will launch a criminal investigation against opposition leaders Maria Corina Machado and Edmundo Gonzalez, who dispute the results of elections held on July 28.

Saab said the investigation was over "inciting police and military officials to disobey the law."

Earlier Monday, the opposition leaders had published a letter calling for security forces to "stand by the people" and respect the results of the election they say they won.
