Argentina poll reveals Sergio Massa leading in presidential race against Javier Milei
Less than a month before the crucial run-off vote, a new poll by Analogias has shown Argentina's ruling Peronist presidential candidate, Sergio Massa, surging ahead of his far-right opponent, Javier Milei.
The survey, released on Thursday, indicates Massa, the outgoing government's economy chief, holds a 42% lead over Milei, a self-proclaimed anarcho-capitalist, who has secured 34% support.
Recent political polling in Argentina has been notably inaccurate, exemplified by Milei's second-place finish in last Sunday's first-round vote, despite leading in pre-election polls. Milei ultimately trailed Massa by approximately six points.
Milei received a significant boost on Wednesday when he gained the endorsement of conservative Patricia Bullrich, who finished third in the initial round with nearly a quarter of the vote. Bullrich's backing is expected to help Milei garner support from moderate conservative voters who are opposed to the ruling Peronists, though her own coalition remains divided regarding their endorsement of the radical libertarian candidate.
The poll also reveals that roughly 18% of voters remain undecided in the upcoming head-to-head match, while approximately 6% have expressed their intention to abstain from voting altogether. The survey was conducted from October 23 to 35, encompassing the opinions of nearly 2,000 voters.
The poll suggests that Massa has secured approximately a third of the supporters of the fourth-place finisher in last Sunday's vote, along with nearly 15% of those who favoured Bullrich.
