China warns Germany against Taiwan visits after banning New Zealand MPs: Video

China on Thursday, June 4, warned German lawmakers against visiting Taiwan, days after Beijing barred four New Zealand members of parliament from entering the country over a similar trip to the self-governed island.

Speaking at a regular press briefing in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said lawmakers who challenge China's position on Taiwan would face consequences.

"Several individual New Zealand lawmakers visited China's Taiwan region in disregard of the grave concern and firm opposition of the Chinese side," Mao said. "Their action violates the one-China principle and interferes in China's internal affairs."

Mao stressed that Beijing would respond firmly to what it views as challenges to its sovereignty claims over Taiwan.
