Explosive footage shows Russian troops taking control of Ryasnoye, Zapselye

Russia’s Defence Ministry says its forces have captured the villages of Ryasnoye and Zapselye in Ukraine’s Sumy region, as fighting intensifies along the border area.

Footage released by the Russian military showed aerial bombardments and first-person drone strike videos targeting buildings, vehicles and troop positions.

According to Moscow, units from the Northern Group of Forces are continuing offensive operations aimed at creating what it described as a “security buffer zone” in the Sumy and Kharkov regions.

“The enemy attempted to redeploy reserves from elite assault units in order to hold their positions, but these efforts were unsuccessful,” the ministry said in a statement. “The militants suffered losses and were forced to withdraw.”

Ukraine had not commented on the Russian claims at the time of publication.

However, Ukraine’s General Staff reported that air strikes had been recorded in several areas of the Sumy region, including near Tolstodubovo, over the previous 24 hours.

Russia launched its full-scale military offensive against Ukraine in February 2022 following its recognition of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.

Kyiv condemned the move as an invasion, while Western countries imposed sweeping sanctions on Moscow and increased military support for Ukraine.
