Israelis fear losing US support after Vance blames Iran war for election defeat

Residents of Israel's Haifa have expressed concerns over weakening US support after Vice-President JD Vance blamed the war with Iran for the Republicans' defeat in Tuesday's midterm elections.

“The reason we lost is the war,” Vance wrote on X on Wednesday, citing voter frustration over the conflict, rising living costs and Washington's relationship with Israel.

He claimed that some voters who supported Donald Trump in 2024 had switched to the Democrats, demanding an end to the war and a greater focus on American interests.

Haifa resident Hila warned that declining international support for Israel could also spread to the United States, its closest ally.

Another resident, Tal, expressed fears that growing regional tensions could further strain relations with Washington.
