Kazakhstan moves to criminalise stalking
Kazakhstan is preparing to make stalking a criminal offense, with plans to introduce fines for those found guilty.
According to local media outlet Orda, lawmakers have already approved the proposal, and a final decision is expected soon.
The change is part of a broader effort to update the country’s criminal laws.
Stalking includes unwanted attention, threats, blackmail, and interference in someone’s personal life
If passed, the act will be officially recognised as a crime in the country.

Lawmaker Abzal Kuspan, who announced the decision, said the law aims to prevent more serious crimes in the future.
The exact fine amount is yet to be decided pending ongoing review.
Kuspan explained that officials want to introduce the change carefully and will monitor how the law is enforced before considering tougher penalties.
If the law is passed, Kazakhstan will join other countries including the United States and the UK that have criminalised stalking.
