Mexico’s police train with Colombia’s elite unit before 2026 World Cup

Security forces in Mexico are stepping up preparations with specialised international training ahead of the global tournament.

Police officers from the state of Jalisco completed a five-week programme led by Colombia’s COPES unit, focusing on urban tactical and counter-terrorism operations. Juan Pablo Hernández described it as one of the most important international courses of its kind, as authorities aim to strengthen readiness and coordination in the lead-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
