Turkey hits back at Netanyahu after UN attack on Erdogan
Turkey rejected accusations against President Recep Tayyip Erdogan after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attacked the Turkish leader during his address to the UN General Assembly.
Using its right of reply on Friday, September 25, a Turkish diplomat called Netanyahu’s accusations against Turkey and Erdogan “baseless and malicious”, while pointing to the walkout of numerous delegations as a sign of diplomatic opposition to the Israeli prime minister. Turkey also reaffirmed its support for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Netanyahu had accused Turkey of spreading what he called antisemitic claims, hosting Hamas leaders and other actions, while describing Erdogan as a “tyrant”. Dozens of delegates left the General Assembly hall as Netanyahu began speaking on Thursday, amid growing international criticism of Israel’s actions in Gaza.
