Israeli ambassador denounces alleged antisemitic campaign in Mexico

Israel's ambassador to Mexico, Yoed Magen, has condemned what he described as an organised antisemitic campaign on social media aimed at damaging relations between the two countries.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Magen claimed the campaign had intensified over the past two months, spreading allegations about Israel's activities in Mexico.

He dismissed claims that Israel was attempting to control Mexico's water resources, infiltrate the southern state of Chiapas through former soldiers or colonise parts of the country.

“It is clear that the campaign is well orchestrated and well funded,” Magen said, describing the accusations as baseless.

Addressing concerns over water management, the ambassador explained that Israeli companies had been invited to share expertise in irrigation and wastewater recycling in Yucatán, although he could not confirm the status of any agreements.

Magen also defended the presence of young Israelis in Chiapas, explaining that many travel abroad after completing compulsory military service, with some participating in volunteer activities coordinated with local authorities.

He maintained that Israel's involvement in Mexico focused on cooperation and knowledge-sharing rather than interference.

His remarks come less than two weeks after an independent United Nations fact-finding commission reiterated its finding that Israel had committed genocide in Gaza, alleging that the violations continued despite a ceasefire in place since October 2025.
