China calls for ceasefire restraint after new US strikes on Iran: Video
China on Tuesday, May 26, urged all parties involved in the escalating tensions between the United States and Iran to honour ceasefire commitments and pursue dialogue, following fresh US military strikes on Iranian targets in the Gulf region.
Speaking during a press briefing in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning called for restraint and renewed negotiations to prevent further instability in the Middle East.
“We urge all relevant parties to honour their commitments to a ceasefire, resolve disputes through peaceful means, continue to seek a negotiated solution that addresses the legitimate concerns of all sides, and work toward the early restoration of peace in the Middle East and the Gulf region,” Mao said.
She added that Beijing hoped all sides would seize the opportunity for diplomacy.
