Egypt's el-Sisi warns of 'catastrophic' consequences if US-Iran conflict resumes

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has warned that renewed fighting between the United States and Iran could have “catastrophic” consequences for the Middle East and the wider world, urging both sides to prioritise diplomacy.

Speaking alongside visiting Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar at the Ittihadiya Presidential Palace on Tuesday, el-Sisi called for restraint and dialogue to prevent further escalation.

“I call on all parties involved in the current crisis between Iran and the United States to allow room for understanding and dialogue,” he said.

The Egyptian leader warned that time was running out to prevent another major confrontation, stressing that renewed conflict could worsen existing global and regional crises.

He urged Washington and Tehran to demonstrate flexibility and seek common ground to resolve their differences peacefully.

El-Sisi's remarks followed talks with Pirc Musar, who was making her first official visit to Egypt since taking office. Their discussions focused on bilateral cooperation and regional security.

His warning comes amid renewed diplomatic efforts to prevent another conflict, with an Iranian delegation holding consultations with Qatari mediators in Doha.

Qatar's Foreign Ministry confirmed on Tuesday that proposals were still being exchanged between Washington and Tehran, although no breakthrough had been announced.
