Hegseth announces annual testosterone screening for US troops over 30
US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced a new testosterone screening programme on Wednesday for American service members aged 30 and older, saying the initiative is aimed at improving military readiness.
In a social media video captioned "High-T Department," Hegseth said troops over 30 would undergo annual testosterone testing as part of their routine health assessments.
"I'm authorising a new screening program for testosterone deficiency for our service members, ensuring you have the right testosterone levels to operate at your absolute best," he said.
Hegseth noted that testosterone levels naturally decline with age and said testing would be carried out under the supervision of military medical professionals.
Service members found to have low testosterone levels will be offered voluntary testosterone replacement therapy.
"As we know, the modern battlefield is brutal and unrelenting. It requires and demands maximum psychological and mental readiness," Hegseth said.
