Iran says missile and drone strikes hit US bases in region
Iranian military spokesperson Ebrahim Zolfaghari said on Wednesday that the country's armed forces had launched missile and drone attacks on US bases across the region in response to what he described as American "wicked acts and terrorist actions."
Zolfaghari, spokesperson for Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, said the Iranian Army and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps carried out a "powerful and swift missile and drone attack" on US bases. He claimed the strikes caused heavy damage to infrastructure, facilities, weapons and equipment, and killed or wounded a significant number of American commanders and soldiers.
"This offensive operation will continue as a lesson to the Americans until they regret their crimes," he said.
Kuwait's military said its air defences intercepted attacks by hostile Iranian drones late on Tuesday, while Jordan's armed forces said 13 ballistic missiles entered its airspace, with 10 intercepted and three falling in remote areas.
US Central Command, meanwhile, said American forces had launched a new round of strikes against IRGC targets in Iran following attempted attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and US personnel in the region.
