Israel probes possible terror motive after Flydubai emergency landing
Israel is investigating a possible terrorist motive after a Flydubai plane carrying 180 Israelis made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday following an incident that left both pilots injured.
Israel's security minister said authorities were examining whether the incident involved an attempt to bring down the aircraft and kill those on board. The circumstances surrounding what happened in the cockpit remain under investigation.
Yasmin Abukasis, whose daughter was a passenger, said her daughter called her after the incident and told her that one pilot had allegedly attacked the other with a knife.
“She told me there were two pilots, and one of them tried to kill the other with a knife,” Abukasis said, adding that passengers heard shouting and calls for help.
According to Abukasis, a woman travelling with three young children approached the cockpit and saw blood before calling for help. She said several Israeli passengers then intervened and restrained the alleged attacker.
