Qatar says US-Iran mediation continues despite renewed military tensions
Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani has confirmed that diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran remain ongoing despite renewed concerns over possible US military action.
Speaking at the Oxford Union on Friday, Sheikh Mohammed said the recent US midterm election results had not affected Washington's commitment to diplomatic negotiations.
“The election results may affect their policies in the future, but they do not affect their intentions,” he said.
The Qatari leader revealed that Doha had worked closely with US officials over the past two weeks to prevent tensions with Tehran from escalating into another confrontation.
He praised what he described as genuine efforts by Washington and constructive engagement from Iranian officials, saying both sides had helped prevent the situation from spiralling out of control.

Although diplomatic contacts have slowed in recent days as Washington focuses on other priorities, Sheikh Mohammed insisted that mediation efforts had not stopped.
The United States and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding on June 18 following mediation by Qatar and Pakistan, agreeing to halt military operations and pursue further negotiations.
However, disputes over the Strait of Hormuz, the US blockade of Iranian ports and ongoing sanctions continue to complicate efforts to reach a lasting agreement.
