Netanyahu orders direct talks with Lebanon amid deadly strikes: Video

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered his cabinet to begin direct negotiations with the Lebanese government “as soon as possible,” even as Israeli forces continue a wave of strikes on the country.

In a statement released on Thursday, April 9, Netanyahu said the move followed repeated requests from Lebanon to open direct negotiations with Israel.

According to Netanyahu, the talks would focus on the disarmament of Hezbollah and the possibility of reaching what he described as a “sustainable, historic” peace agreement between the two countries.
