A police officer's quick decision to jump into raging floodwaters helped save a woman from being swept away during severe flooding in northeastern China.
The dramatic rescue took place on Monday in Gaokan Sub-district, Hunnan District, in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, where heavy flooding affected nearly 3,000 households.
Footage showed streets submerged as police officers, firefighters and volunteers carried out rescue operations, using loaders to evacuate stranded residents.
During the operation, a woman lost her footing and fell into the fast-moving water. Auxiliary police officer Sun Peng immediately dived in and reached her within seconds.

"When I turned around, I saw that she couldn't stand up on her own because she was already flailing her arms in panic," recalled Sun Peng from the fifth squadron of the Hunnan Brigade of the Traffic Management Detachment.
"I was about four body lengths away from her [...] If I dived forward, I could reach her in one go. I used my arm to support her head and lift her up. I didn't hold her; otherwise, we might both have drowned. I grabbed the back of her collar. After she stood up, she held onto my waist, and we got to safety smoothly," he continued.
Witnesses praised the officer's courage and immediate response.
"He didn't hesitate at all. I don't think even a second passed before he jumped straight in. I think he's truly great. I'm deeply moved, and he is so selfless," one witness said.
Reflecting on the rescue, Sun said helping those in danger was his only priority.
"It was an emergency, and there was no time to think [...] At that moment, I only thought that I must save her, because that's why we came here in the first place: to rescue the people in need," he added.
By Monday evening, authorities said all ground-floor residents and others requiring urgent evacuation had been moved to safety, while floodwaters across the community had begun to recede.
