The United States is encouraged by recent Chinese arrests related to illicit fentanyl trade but seeks "seizures and convictions" by Beijing, a U.S. official told Reuters on Thursday, after Chinese state media announced a campaign targeting traffickers.

"While we are encouraged by China's first public enforcement actions since the leaders met in Busan in October, we are focused on achieving results. We want to see seizures and convictions, not just arrests," the U.S. official said in a statement.
