Ecuador rice farmers hit by crisis amid Colombia trade dispute: Video

Rice producers in Ecuador are facing a growing crisis as exports to Colombia stall and domestic prices fall sharply.

Farmers in Daule report large stockpiles of unsold rice, with around 200,000 tonnes accumulated nationwide due to border restrictions and a tariff dispute between the two countries. The oversupply has driven prices well below production costs, hitting small and medium producers hardest, while both governments maintain tariffs of up to 75 percent, worsening the trade deadlock.
