Families abandon homes and belongings as Israeli forces press deeper into Gaza: Video

Thousands of Palestinians continued to flee south on Thursday, September 18, as Israeli forces expanded their offensive in Gaza City, intensifying air and ground operations under the second phase of Operation Gideon’s Chariots 2.

Footage from central Gaza showed families crammed into vehicles loaded with belongings, while others made their way on foot. One displaced resident described the desperation of leaving everything behind.

“We couldn't take it anymore. I escaped with my daughter from death, and now I'm heading south to Deir al-Balah, hoping we'll find a place to stay. We're doing as the army tells us,” he said. “How long will we remain like this? Either we die under the bombing, or we die a natural death at any moment.”

The escalation comes after the Israeli government approved Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan on August 8 to occupy Gaza City, following the collapse of ceasefire negotiations with Hamas.
