MPs from 6 East African countries engage in competitive sports in Rwanda

Legislators from six (6) East African Community (EAC) partner countries are participating in a 10-day inter-parliamentary sports event.
The event which is the 13th edition is happening in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda and will see the involvement of countries including Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, South Sudan and Burundi.
900 legislators are expected to participate in various sports games including football, netball, walk race, golf, basketball, athletics, tug-of-war, volleyball and darts.
The tournament seeks to create networking opportunities among members of parliament within the region.
"The Inter-Parliamentary Games is normally meant for helping all members of Parliaments to meet and interact through sports,” Rwandan parliamentarian Rutazana Francine was quoted on Rwanda Parliament’s official Twitter page.

“Additionally, the games serve as a platform to raise awareness among citizens of the EAC about the integration process through engaging in sporting activities,” a press release from Rwanda’s parliament added.
The Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Rt. Hon. Donatille Mukabalisa, expressed delight and appreciation to EAC Parliaments and East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) for having granted Rwanda the privilege of hosting the 13th Edition of the Inter-parliamentary Games and pledged to make it a success.
According to Article 49 of the Treaty for the Establishment of the East African Community, “the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) shall among other things liaise with the Parliaments of the Partner States on matters relating to the Community.”
This includes the Inter-Parliamentary Games (IPG) an annual sports event coordinated by the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
The event which is under the theme, "For a progressive, peaceful, and all-inclusive EAC” began on December 8 and will end on December 18, 2023.
