Philippines invites Modi as India ties deepen at BRICS summit
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr has invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Manila as the two countries seek closer cooperation in digital payments, technology and investment.
Marcos made the invitation while wrapping up his participation in the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, thanking Modi for India’s hospitality and confirming plans to receive him in Manila in November. The two sides also explored linking India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) with the Philippines’ QR Ph system to make cross-border payments easier for consumers, businesses and travellers.
Technology investment was another focus, with Marcos meeting executives from Indian companies including HCLTech, Cognizant, Hinduja Group and VVDN Technologies. The visit builds on the India-Philippines Strategic Partnership established in 2025, while Marcos attended the summit as the 2026 ASEAN chair and the Philippines participated as an invited Outreach Country.
