Police display cash seized from ambulance linked to former Bolivian attorney general
Police in Bolivia displayed bundles of cash on Thursday after intercepting an ambulance authorities say had left the residence of former attorney general Roger Mariaca in Santa Cruz.
The money, found in three bags, included Bolivian currency and US dollars. Police sources said more than 3.53 million bolivianos and $10,000 were seized.
Authorities said three men and a woman were travelling in the ambulance when it was stopped in northern Santa Cruz. The group had allegedly removed the bags of cash from a property belonging to Mariaca.
Police began counting the seized money at a facility in Los Tusequis as part of the investigation.
Mariaca faces allegations including organised crime, illicit enrichment or money laundering-related offences, and illicit trafficking of controlled substances.
