Thousands rally in Tehran against US and Israel on embassy seizure anniversary
Thousands of Iranians gathered in Tehran on Wednesday to mark the 47th anniversary of the 1979 US Embassy takeover, chanting anti-American and anti-Israeli slogans and calling for revenge.
Demonstrators waved Iranian and Palestinian flags outside the former US Embassy, carrying banners condemning Washington and Israel.
Footage showed protesters displaying caricatures of US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dressed in prison uniforms and shackles.
Tehran Mayor Ali Reza Zakani described Trump's setbacks in the US midterm elections as a victory for the Iranian people.
“What has become clear from the elections in Israel and the United States, and the fact that Trump has today been defeated on all fronts in the United States, is the result of your efforts, the Iranian people,” Zakani said.
