Sudan’s RSF visits Uganda
Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) leader Mohamed Hamdan Daglo paid a visit to Uganda’s president, Yoweri Museveni on December 27. Both leaders had met the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council of Sudan, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan early on. This visit is iconic because it is the first visit by General Daglo after a war broke out between the RSF and the Sudanese army in April 2023. According to local news outlet The Monitor, President Museveni affirmed full support to advance efforts to achieve peace and stability in Sudan.
Police arrest criminals
Over 200 arrests have been made in various raids in the capital of Uganda, Kampala. Various stolen items including marijuana, and phones among others were reportedly retrieved during the operations in Kawempe, Kololo, and Kajjansi, all areas within the capital and in the city centre. Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Oweyesigyire indicated that the suspects will be prepared for trial, local news outlet Bukedde reported.

Uganda’s take on EU coffee ban
Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has welcomed the European Union’s regulations targeted at preventing coffee imports from registered farmers and deforested lands. This follows the approval of a landmark deforestation law banning imports of coffee, beef, and soy among other commodities into the EU by the European parliament. The move is to ensure that proof is provided that goods provided for imports weren’t produced on deforested land before 2020 to avoid impact on climate change. It is set to take effect in 2025, according to The Observer.
Police pursue assailants
Police in the Oyam District of northern Uganda are on a manhunt for unknown assailants who shot and injured three people during a robbery in Loro Town Council. Loro is located on Kamdidni Highway Oyam District and is a major bus stop point for travellers to Kampala. The suspect who was wearing military attire and carrying a gun entered a hardware shop demanding money and shot sporadically after an attendant tried to run off. He made away with 65,000 shillings ($414) during the incident that happened on December 26, according to media outlet The Independent.
Historic surgical processes recorded
President Yoweri Museveni met a group of surgeons from Mulago National Hospital after they performed the first kidney transplant in Uganda. The Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng led the team to meet the president at the State House. The first kidney transplant was conducted on a resident of Munyonyo in Kampala with a kidney donated by his brother. The surgery was led by Prof Frank Asiimwe together with visiting doctors from Yashoda Hospital in India led by Dr. A. Sashi Kiran, according to The Observer.
