Natural sounds could be used to generate electricity

Researchers in Kazakhstan say sound could power devices in remote areas.

Researchers at Satbayev University in Kazakhstan are working on a device to convert sound vibrations in the air into electricity.

Designed to capture the frequencies of sounds commonly found in nature, the technology would be used to provide power in isolated areas.

For instance, it could supply electricity to monitor conditions in crop fields. The device is still in the theoretical stage at present but the researchers hope soon to be able to move onto working prototypes.
