New York protesters demand ICE removal after agent shoots Dominican man
Thousands of protesters marched through New York City on Friday, October 9, demanding an end to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations after an agent shot a Dominican man during an attempted arrest while his five-year-old son was in the car.
Demonstrators gathered at Foley Square and chanted “ICE out of NY” and “Abolish ICE”, calling for the man’s release from custody, an independent investigation, prosecution of the agent and the release of footage from the shooting. Mayor Zohran Mamdani condemned the incident and called on President Donald Trump to halt ICE operations in the city, saying the agency was making New Yorkers feel unsafe.
The shooting took place on Thursday in Marble Hill. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said an ICE agent fired seven rounds at the man’s vehicle, hitting him in the neck, while the child was unharmed. ICE claimed the driver had rammed two agency vehicles and accelerated towards officers. The Bronx District Attorney’s Office is investigating the incident.
